What: Too Much Fun
Why/How: Little John formed in Boston during 1991 as a power-trio. When Seth Freeman's songs caused sparks in Boston clubs the band headed into the studio to record 'Derailer'. Produced by Mike Deneen, this self-released CD (Crane Mountain Records) was eventually picked-up by EMI. After east coast tours to support the major lable release they recorded second album, 'We'll Always Have Ohio' in their own studio. These first albums laid the foundation for Little John's song-oriented guitar pop.
After a few lineup changes and a move to San Francisco, Little John reformed as a power-trio with Steve Bell (ex-Swirl Happy) on Drums and Chris Greacen (blert) on bass. Continuing down the road toward power-pop nirvana, Little John recorded and released their third record, 'Too Much Fun' in San Francisco at Found Sound and Hideaway Studios.
What does Little John sound like? Yes, they have that "Beatles having musical tea with Nirvana while the Kinks and the Who fight over the chord changes in the background" thing going on. Mixing the geek-cool of Weezer, the popsong craftiness of Elvis Costello, the throbbing power of the Descendents and a diploma from the Boston School of rock: Lemonheads, Pixies, Cavedogs, Dinosaur Jr., Little John's sound packs a powerful pop. Big guitars, friendly hooks, catchy lyrics, and rocking rhythms all conspire to keep these songs running through your mind.
Little John is poised to get their music onto your radio, movie soundtrack, your computer, your CD player, your list of all-time favorites. The band is working toward a west-coast tour, album number four, and making Little John a household name.
